The Dog With A Huge Heart: Winn-Dixie

In the book, Because of Winn-Dixie By Kate DiCamillo, a young lady, India Opal Buloni, has found a dog who changes her life, for the better. She doesn't just find this dog on the street, she finds him in a supermarket, causing trouble. This dog becomes her best friend and the one person she can rely on to love her and treat her right. Throughout the book, the love between Winn-Dixie and Opal gets stronger, like a bond between people, except stronger.

In the beginning of the book, Opal finds the life changing dog in the Winn-Dixie Super market and just by coincidence, the dogs name just happened to be Winn-Dixie. At first the realtionship was kind of awkward because they didn't really know eachother yet, Opal focused on cleaning him up, just so that he was a presentable dog and juust so that her dad, the preacher, would lt her keep the dog. At first, he said no, but then his heart warmed up to the dog and even he loved Winn-Dixie.

By the end of the book, Winn-Dixie and Opal's relationship is very strong and they are like two peas in a pot. I bet they could finish eachother's sentences if Winn-Dixie could speak and Opal could read his mind. The best thing of all is that Winn-Dixie helps her find other friends of her own that she can also rely on and one of them ends up being her arch enemy.

I think that this book shows that love is not just for humans, a dog can help mend a heart just by showing you their love, not only because they are mans best friend, but also because some of the dogs can love more than humans can.

  1. I really like how you introduced your response. Then you continued into what the book really means and even gave examples. Nice job!
