Single Parenting: Advantages/Disadvantages

I don't think that single parenting is a good thing. It has it's advantages and disadvavntages. One thing that breaks my heart is that, for single parenting to occur one of the parents must be gone, whether they have died or they just left. Either way they aren't a part of the neworns life. Single parenting not only affects the partner, but it also affects the newborn child.

Single parenting affects the newborn child because now there is a figure in your life missing, whether it is the mother or father, the baby is affected the most. At times there are children that grow up to say, "I am such-and-such way because I didn't have a father figure or motherly figure in my life," or "I take drugs because I didn't have a father that was truley there for me and it broke my heart." These are the reason why parents must be more responsible for their children, because the child may grow up to be a bad person due to their lack of having a parent.

One advantage of being a single parent is that you have total control. I don't say this so that you go off and become a single parent voluntarily, but you have total control of the child, finances, and many other things. You don't have someone that argues with you, other than your child. And you don't hae someone who tries to control you. You have more control over your child because if they ask you for something and you say no, then they can't run off and ask anyone else and defy your order because you are the only parent there to allow them to do what they want. You are in total financial control because you don't have someone irresponsible to get you into financial troubles or debts, unless you do that to yourself.

One disadvantage of single parenting is that there is lack of support and pressure and stress on you. You don't have that one person living with you to support you and help you out around the house. You are forced to do all the house work until your baby is old enogh to help out and at times that can get very tiring. You also have to provide for the family. You will be the one earning money to keep a roof over your heads and you are the one who will be buying clothes to put on your backs. This is pressure put on a single mom. Also, for a baby you need pampers, wipes, a bottle, a pacifier, and many more things. Without a job how can you provide these things for a baby.

All these things are things that happen to single moms everday all across the world, but the real idea is whether you chose to have a baby and take a risk or whether you wait and get married so that the chances are less likely. The choice is yours.
